What is aasm?
School Format
The Awakening Asia School of Ministry is a program that focuses on personal transformation. While no grades are given, students are expected to participate and demonstrate excellence and timely completion of homework assignments.
- The main sessions are taught by senior pastors as well as guest speakers from around the world, training you in biblical foundations, Christ-like character, pure heart, the prophetic, evangelism, healing and deliverance, apostolic ministry, etc.
- In addition to the Bible, there will be a variety of books which you will read during your time with us.
- You will be encouraged to cultivate a lifestyle of intimate relationship with God through hours in prayer and worship both corporately and individually.
- You will be activated in evangelism throughout the school year, including weekly outreaches, university campus ministry, and mission trips.
- You will also be trained and activated in areas like worship leading, preaching, discipleship, supernatural ministry, leadership, and church planting.
- You will be mentored by one of your leaders which includes a monthly one-on-one meeting.
- The school year is ultimately led by Holy Spirit, so things may change.

Frequently Asked Questions
The school will be simultaneously held in both English and Japanese. However, this does not mean that you must be a native speaker of either to benefit from the school. God has also been giving some of our students the grace to learn language and overcome language barriers. If you believe that God is calling you to come to this school, then do not let it be a hindrance to you applying.
Our school is located in Ueno, Tokyo, and our 9-month program will run from August 2025 to March 2026.
Yes! Because religious training is one of the acceptable activities under a religious activities visa, we are able to offer religious activities visas for our students. For that reason, it is necessary to have your COE application mailed to us by January 15th, 2026. (Please allow up to two weeks for mailing.)
Yes and no. Our school is meant to allow for people to work part-time jobs alongside their studies, so Japanese as well as internationals with visas independent of AASM may do so. However, the religious activities visa for international students generally does not permit one to work part-time jobs on the side.
Monthly living expenses will vary from person to person, so please plan a budget that accounts for your personal needs and spending habits, including things like healthcare, taxes, hobbies, etc. Here are a few estimates to help people get started with their planning:
Housing and utilities - ¥60,000~¥80,000
Food - ¥20,000~¥60,000
Transportation - ¥5,000~¥20,000
At Awakening Tokyo, we highly value community and doing life together. For that reason, while we do not require it, we recommend that all students live in share houses near the school. We have a staff leader present in each share house to help facilitate healthy home environments. Students will be expected to pay for their own rent and utilities and food expenses. While we will help students with the logistics of finding housing, it is ultimately the student's responsibility to find and secure adequate housing during their time at AASM.
If you are not a student but want to visit our school, you can do so for up to 3 days per school year. Visitors will need to register beforehand in order to participate.
Click here for more information about visiting.
You will be placed into a group of students where you have the opportunity to grow in deep relationship with others, encourage one another in your callings, and be pastored by one of our leaders.
AASM is for everyone! However, at this time since we do not have childcare support available during the school, we are limited in our ability to accommodate children. Students are allowed to bring children to class only if they can take care of them themselves and as long as they are not disturbing the class.
